Stacia Oyer, daughter of Ordean and Mardy Oyer of Rural Hayward, has been selected to be a part of the Minnesota/USA Cheerleading team to cheer at the Novotel Beachcomber “Down Under Bowl” in Australia June 23 to July 5, 2002. She is a full time post-secondary student and a senior at Albert Lea High School.

To receive a letter of invitation, Stacia had to be recommended and excel in her sport. Stacia was also scouted by the Universal Cheerleading Association to try out for a position on their staff to teach camps and perform in the five-state area. She was accepted as a high priority alternate.

The “Down Under Bowl” consists of United States, Australian and New Zealand all-star teams competing on the Gold Coast of Australia in several different high school sports. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Stacia and she is raising funds to help pay for her trip.

Raffle tickets for a chance to win two all expense paid trips to Australia to attend the “Down Under Bowl” are available until May 9 at Skyline Jewelers and Northstar Powersports.

On May 11, a bake sale and car wash are planned from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Northbridge Mall and parking lot. All of the proceeds are applied towards Stacia’s trip. Other fundraisers are being planned.
