WELLS – For the second time in less than a week, the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva girls’ track and field team finished first.

WELLS – For the second time in less than a week, the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva girls’ track and field team finished first.

The Panthers topped the eight-team field in Tuesday’s Rebel Relays at Wells after winning the Gopher Conference Indoor on Saturday.

It was a battle for second place at Wells as the Panthers totaled 188 points. The host team was second with 142, followed by Hayfield and Madelia/Truman with 137, Martin County West 136, Minnesota Valley Lutheran 133, St. Peter 88 and Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 85.

&uot;This type of meet suits us well, it shows our depth,&uot; said Panthers co-coach Duey Ferber. &uot;We were pleased with six first-place finishes. The 4×800 girls finally broke the record they have been working toward for two years.&uot;

Jessica Brouwers, April Bayerkohler, Melissa Maurer and Michel Maurer got the record, placing fourth in the 4×800 in 10:55.1.

The Panthers’ first-place finishes: shuttle hurdle relay (Kalisha Anthony, Kelsie Hansen, Ashley Misgen); discus (Nicole Lonning, Jean Raimann, Brittany Schwartz, Jennifer Grunzke); pole vault (Anthony, Megan Groskreutz, Bobbie Jo Dahl, Melissa Barber); 300 hurdles (Hansen, Tammi Sorenson, Ashley Misgen, Sarah Kyte); shot put (Lonning, Raimann, Ashley Malakowsky, Kyree Wobbrock); high jump (Hansen, Misgen, Mackenzie Tappe, Amy Byron).

Emily Kofstad, Ellen Johnson, Michelle Dobberstein and Brandis Hagen took second in the 4×100. Camille Kyte, Elizabeth Schultz, Tappe and Kofstad were third in the triple jump, Kofstad, Camille Kyte, Hansen and Hagen third in the 4×200.
