A truly strong showing

Somebody forgot to tell the Albert Lea girls’ track and field team.

The Tigers had several season bests Tuesday while taking fourth among nine squads in the True Team Section 1AA meet at Red Wing.

&uot;The girls performed incredibly well,&uot; said coach Margo Wayne. &uot;Despite the weather and long bus trip, we were dropping times right and left. We showed a lot of composure in a big-meet situation. I’m very proud of the girls. They really put together a good meet.&uot;

New Prague won with 437.5 points, followed in the top five by Red Wing at 387, Northfield 363.5, Albert Lea 362.5 and Farmington 345.

Emily Bartusek had another big meet for the Tigers, winning the 200 and 400 meters and the triple jump. She joined Amy Ravenhorst, Jasey Porter and Beth Kolling on the first-place 4×400 relay.

Kolling had the Tigers’ other individual first, winning the 100. She was third in the 200 and eighth in the high jump.

The Tigers travel to Faribault on Tuesday, where they’ll face the host team and Rochester Century.
