EMMONS &045; It took the Glenville-Emmons Wolverines about 12 innings to warm up Tuesday.

It’s a good thing they finally did.

The Wolverines kept alive their hopes for the Southeast Conference baseball championship while salvaging a doubleheader split with Fillmore Central at Glenville. They lost the opener 6-1 and won the nightcap 4-3 in nine innings.

&uot;The whole first game and most of the second game &045; until the sixth inning &045; we just didn’t come prepared to play,&uot; said coach Louie Toulouse. &uot;When we tied (game two) in the sixth, it seemed like we got a little bit of life and we kind of carried it through for the win.&uot;

The Wolverines improved to 13-3 overall, 5-1 in the conference. Fillmore Central dropped to 4-2 in the league.

The Wolverines managed only two hits in game one, both singles by Jay Wadding.

Fillmore Central scored three earned runs off Richie Mathis, who pitched a complete game. He walked two and struck out six.

&uot;They wanted to play more than we did that first game,&uot; said Toulouse.

The Wolverines scored in the top of the sixth in game two to send it to extra innings.

Mitch Meier ran his record to 6-0 with the win. The left-hander gave up two earned runs, fanning 10 and walking three.

Mike Yocom was 2-for-2 with a sacrifice and a walk, Wadding 2-for-3, Paul Kleven 2-for-4. Adding one hit each were Mathis, Meier and Matt Learn.

The Wolverines travel to face preseason conference favorite LeRoy-Ostrander/Grand Meadow on Thursday.
