Derwin ‘Dewey’ Sigurd Dahl, 84, Glenville

Derwin &uot;Dewey&uot; Sigurd Dahl, age 84, of Glenville, formerly of Northwood, Iowa, died Monday, May 6, 2002, at the St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m.. Friday, May 10, at the First Lutheran Church, 309 N. Ninth St., Northwood, Iowa, with The Rev. Paul Holmer and The Rev. Allan Stoa officiating. Burial will be in the Kensett Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, Iowa, and one hour prior to service time on Friday at the church.

The family of Derwin &uot;Dewey&uot; Dahl has requested that memorial contributions be made to the First Lutheran Church in Northwood, Kensett Cemetery, or to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly, in his memory.

Derwin &uot;Dewey&uot; Sigurd Dahl was born on March 10, 1918, in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Dr. Sigurd and Imo (Zachery) Dahl. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended and received his education in the Manly school system. He was united in marriage to Dora Geneva Loland on July 20, 1941, in LeCenter, Minn.

She preceded him in death on Aug., 12, 1996.

Dewey farmed all his life in the Manly area, before moving to Northwood in 1989, and in 1998 moved to Glenville. He was united in marriage to Lila Ellingson on Nov. 11, 2000, at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood.

Dewey enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, wintering in Phoenix, Mesa, and Apache Junction, Ariz., since 1981, playing cards, dancing, and visiting with his many friends at the coffee shop and the senior citizens center.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Northwood, former member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly, Isaac Walton League in Kensett, Eagles Club in Albert Lea, Glenville Senior Citizen Center, and the Stateline Stinkers and Riverside Neighborhood Club both in Glenville.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Lila Dahl of Glenville; three children: Donavon Dahl and his wife Janey of Phoenix, Ariz., LaVern Dahl and his wife Tanya of Mason City, Iowa, and Imogene Woodhouse and her husband Paul of Albert Lea; four stepchildren: Donna Mittag and her husband Bruce of Glenville, Connie Thompson and her husband Larry of Glenville, LeRoy Ellingson and his wife Kathy of Clemson, S.C., and LaDon Ellingson and special friend Kim Johnson of Glenville; four grandchildren: Tamie Mehus and her husband Brad of Albert Lea, Tennile Turnbull and her husband Tom of Albert Lea, Tiffani Allen and her husband Brad of Hampton, Iowa, and Courtny Dahl and her fianc Adam Trappe of Mason City, Iowa; 11 step-grandchildren: Dorenne Hansen and her husband Michael of Glenville, Bonnie Anding and her husband Curtis of West Concord, Minn., David Mittag and his wife April of New London, Mo., Brenda Wehking and her husband Troy of Avoca, Minn., Stacie Stensrud and her husband Dale of Freeborn, Justin Thompson of Coon Rapids, Shawn Ellingson and his wife Sharyl of Glenville, Kelly Ellingson and his wife Bridget of Glenville, Jason Ellingson and his wife Mindy of Austin, Travis Ellingson in the Navy in South Carolina, and Karri Ellingson of California; 18 great-grandchildren; a special aunt, Alma Backhaus of Manly; as well as other relatives and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Dora Dahl, on Aug. 12, 1996.
