Funeral services for LaVon Sweet Brua, age 75, of Emmons will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at Emmons Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dwight Netzer and Chaplain Monrad Mandsager will officiate. Visitation will be held Monday, May 20 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery, rural Emmons.

She died Friday, May 17 at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea.

LaVon &uot;Vonnie&uot; Sweet Brua was born August 10, 1926 in Albert Lea, the daughter of Olaf and Lillian (Olsen) Christenson. She attended public school in Albert Lea, and was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Vonnie married Elmer Sweet on August 15, 1942. Elmer passed away on April 15, 1976. She later married Marvin Brua on September 4, 1983 at Emmons Lutheran Church. Marvin passed away on April 5, 1998. She was a lifetime resident of Freeborn County. Vonnie was a member of the Emmons Lutheran Church and was active in the WELCA and church circle, and was also a Sunday school teacher. She had been a 4-H leader, an active member of the Emmons Senior Citizens, the Emmons American Legion Auxiliary, and the Sunset Saddle Club. She loved to bake cinnamon rolls and donuts, and was known in the Emmons area as the donut lady.

Vonnie is survived by her children Connie and her husband Larry VanRyswyk of Albert Lea; Kathy Sweet of Harper, Texas; Elmer and his wife Kim Sweet of Glendale, Ariz.; John and his wife Rosa Sweet of Harper, Texas; Cindy and her husband Lavine Petersen of Lake Mills, Iowa; Beth Jensen and fianc Michael Groesbeck of Mason City, Iowa; Roger and his wife Beverly Brua of Mandelein, Ill.; Richard Brua; Elaine and her husband Milan Hart, all of Albert Lea. She is also survived by grandchildren Cheri (John) Hepler; Kurt (Lynette) VanRyswyk; Dirk (Heather) VanRyswyk; Jennifer Tapp; Tara, James and Dustin Sweet; Brandon, Sarah, Brent and Ashley Petersen; Phillip, Krystal and Eric Jensen; Adam and Greg Alvarado; Rosangela Toler; Roger, Robert and Matthew Brua; Deanna (Tim) Bowen; Shannon, Bobbi Jo and Brad Brua; Milan Jr. and Kemlin Hart; and great-grandchildren Trent and Drew Hepler; Jordyn, Kalli and Derek VanRyswyk; Taryn and Dawson VanRyswyk; Jordyn and Lee Bowen; Steven Toler; Mercedes Toler; Tye Toler; Trey Toler; Gabriel Alvarado; and Ashlyn Sweet. Also in her family are sisters-in-law Darlene Nelson and Carol Kirkpatrick.

Vonnie was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers Donald and Melvin Nelson and two children, Virginia Behr and Larry Brua.
