Philip Mark Black, 65, Adrian, Michigan

Phillip Mark Black, age 65, of Adrian, Mich., died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich.

He was born Nov. 28, 1936, in Albert Lea to Mark and Margaret (Pearsall) Black. On June 8, 1962, he married Virginia Nelson in Freeborn County, and she survives. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 – 1959. He graduated from Mankato State University in 1963.

Phillip was the Chief Underwriter for the Gleaner Life Insurance Co. until his retirement on March I, 2002. He was a member of the Adrian American Legion, the London Country Club in London, Ohio, and numerous insurance

organizations. He enjoyed golfing, boating and fishing.

In addition to his wife; Phillip is survived by two daughters: Alison Toops and her husband Dan of London, Ohio, and Mary Beth Black of Berkley, Mich.; one brother, Tom Black and his wife Marlene of California; one sister, Ruth Benson of Albert Lea,; two grandchildren: Daniel and Ashley Toops; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, Don Benson.

Visitation will be

5-7 p.m. Monday at the Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.at the Deer

Creek Valley Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the London Deer Creek Cemetery in Northwood, Iowa.
