Seniors pace Panthers to second at Faribault

FARIBAULT &045; The seniors led the way as the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva boys’ track and field team placed second in the Bethlehem Academy Invitational Thursday.

The host team won with 140 points, followed by the Panthers with 99, Minnesota Academy for the Deaf 50, Glenville-Emmons 34 and Alden-Conger 22.

&uot;Our seniors had an outstanding meet,&uot; said Panthers co-coach Mike Weber. &uot;Gavin Berg and Ryan Graves each had firsts and the other senior duo of Luke Perry and Matt Bayerkohler combined for runner-up in six events. For the underclassmen, Sonny Berg was solid.

&uot;Overall, it was a good meet for our boys.&uot;

Gavin Berg won the 110 hurdles, Graves the pole vault.

The Panthers’ other firsts were by Sonny Berg in the 300 hurdles and long jump. He was second in the 100.

Perry placed second in the shot put and discus while Bayerkohler was second in the 1600 and 3200. Perry tossed the shot a personal-best 39 feet, 7 inches.

Graves, Perry, Dustin Schriever and Geoff Stieglbauer took second in the 4×200 relay. Gavin Berg, Sonny Berg, Perry and Graves were second in the 4×100.

NRHEG’s other second places were by Brian Bos in the 800 and Schriever in the high jump.

Other Panther places: Graves, fourth, 100; Tim Rysavy, fourth, 1600 and fourth, 800; James Petsinger, fourth, discus; Gavin Berg, fourth, triple jump; Schriever, fifth, 300 hurdles; Stieglbauer, fifth, 200; Patrick Petsinger, fifth, shot put.

The Panthers are off until this Thursday, when they travel to United South Central for the True

Team section meet.
