Volunteering with a personal purpose

If your wife or husband had to live in a nursing home, what would you do? Jack Peterson decided to make the best of his situation.

Two-and-a-half years ago, Peterson discovered the need for volunteers at St. John’s Lutheran Home. He donates much of his time helping all the residents out at St. John’s. He goes shopping for them. He takes some of them shopping. He helps out with all the activities and takes residents on day trips.

He is good with people and said he loves sharing his time with the residents. He is friends with many of them so it’s nice to spend time with them and talk, he said.

Peterson gets to assist residents as well as spend time with his wife Sandra. They have been married for 47 years. Peterson said he would have volunteered a long time ago if he realized the need for help was so strong.
