Woodside leads ALHS track boys in True Team meet

RED WING &045; The True Team format is not a good one for the Albert Lea boys’ track and field team.

There aren’t enough team members for the Tigers to be competitive.

The ALHS boys finished last among nine schools in Tuesday’s True Team Section 1AA meet at Red Wing.

&uot;Most of our times and distances were below par tonight,&uot; said coach Lon Nelson. &uot;We can only regroup and hope to save face at our only home meet Tuesday.&uot;

Sophomore Ben Woodside led the Tigers at Red Wing, placing eighth in the high jump and finishing in the top 10 in each of his three events. He was seventh in the 100-meter dash.

Tyler Young had the top place, taking fourth in the discus.

Joe Squires, Sean Harms, Adam Muilenburg and Andrew Irvine were fifth in the 4×800 relay, while Woodside, Jake Abrego, Josh More and Jason Kuipers took sixth in the 4×100.

Albert Lea’s other top-10 finishes were Taylor Zimmerman, sixth in the 1600, and Mike Veldman ninth in the shot put.

The Tigers take on Rochester Century, Faribault and Mankato East Tuesday at 4:30 in their only home meet of the year.
