Cory M. Vander Woude, 21, Atascosa, Texas

Funeral services for Cory M. Vander Woude, age 21, of Atascosa, Texas, and formerly of Buffalo Center, Iowa, and Albert Lea, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Bill Peake will officiate.

Interment will be in St. Theodore’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday June 25, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Cory died on Saturday, June 22, 2002, in San Antonio as a result of an automobile accident.

Cory Michael Vander Woude was born on Aug. 19, 1980, in Albert Lea, the son of Dennis and Ilene (Callahan) Vander Woude. He grew up in Albert Lea and moved to Iowa with his mother. Cory graduated from Ventura High School in 1999. He had recently moved to Texas in April. Cory liked computers, shooting pool, lifting weights, working out, and bull riding. His dreams for the future included attending bull riding school and some day settling down and having a family of his own. Cory loved his family very much and will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.

Survivors include his mother, Ilene and her husband Terry Hammond of Buffalo Center; his father, Dennis Vander Woude and his special friend Kathy Marty of Albert Lea; sisters: Michelle and her husband Mike Karnes of Austin, and Tiffany Hammond of Lake Mills; grandmother, Ione Callahan of Albert Lea; grandfather, Frank Vander Woude of Grand Rapids, Mich.; step-grandmother, Norma Hammond; nieces: Courtney Karnes and Alexis Benitez; nephews: Christian and Collin Karnes, and Tyler Benitez; and

many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Cory was preceded in death by his grandfather, Nick Callahan; grandmother, Dora Vander Woude; aunt, Sharon Callahan; and his step-grandfather, Leo Hammond.
