Donald S. Berg, 79, Austin

Donald S. Berg, age 79, of Austin, died Sunday, June 16, 2002, at Season’s Hospice In Rochester.

Don was born Aug. 29, 1922, in Cambridge, Minn., to Bernard and Sadie (Anderson) Berg. At age 2 his family moved to the Oakland area and he lived there until 1942. Don attended country school and graduated from Austin High School in 1941. He enlisted in the Merchant Marines in 1942. After discharge he moved to Albert Lea and worked for Johnson Cleaners. In 1947 he moved to Austin and had a small trucking business. Don became involved In the real estate business in 1967.

On Nov. 22, 1958, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Hansen at Queen of Angels Church in Austin. Don enjoyed working in the yard, feeding the birds and visiting many coffee shops to “have coffee and visit with people.&uot;

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Berg of Austin; sister, Atlanta Zech of Austin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews,

He is preceded in death by his parents: Bernard and Sadie; stepfather, Irvin Legried; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Vivian Berg; nephew, Dennis Berg; and brothers-in-law: Orville Peterson and Gordon Zech.

A funeral mass will be celebrated 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 20,

at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Austin, with the Rev. Paul Nelson officiating. There will be a 6:45 p.m. wake service on Wednesday at Mayer Funeral Home, Austin, where friends may call from 4-8 p.m., and also from noon-1 p.m. on Thursday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
