Iowa team tops Macker

There were only a few minor incidents, but there was major action.

Upwards of 270 teams converged on the Northbridge Mall parking lot Saturday and Sunday for Albert Lea’s 7th Annual Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Jam and, according to tournament chairperson Dennis Dieser, things went off smoothly.

&uot;I’d say we had a successful Macker,&uot; said Dieser as the last game finished Sunday evening. &uot;We had a lot of participation, a lot of family fun. There’s an endless list of people to thank. Basically, the people of Albert Lea made it possible.&uot;

Several local and area teams took home trophies.

On the Top Men’s court, a foursome from Iowa called &uot;Big O&uot; earned top honors, defeating &uot;Old School&uot; of Minneapolis in the championship round. Members of Big O were Jude Burger, Dubuque; Nate Steege, Fredericksburg; Jamie Norton, Waverly; and Jake Olson, Osage. Old School included Steve Burton, Frank Shaw, Boe Lintz and Orion Thorston, all of Minneapolis.
