Muriel Viola (Wuerflein) Wogen, 83, Kiester

Funeral services for Muriel Viola (Wuerflein) Wogen, 83, of Kiester will be 1:30 p.m. on Monday, June 3, 2002, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church In Kiester. The Rev. Richard Steffen will officiate. Visitation will be at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be at Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery in Kiester.

She died Friday, May 31, at Parkview Care Center In Wells where she had been a resident since June 2001

Muriel Viola Wogen was born October 29, 1918, to George and Minnie (Sletten) Wuerflein in Scarville, Iowa. She was baptized December 15, 1918, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville and confirmed there on June 12,1932. She graduated from Scarville High School in 1936. Following graduation, she was employed by the Scarville Farmer’s Telephone Company for three years.

Muriel married Elvin Wogen on May 8, 1940 in Scarville. During their marriage, they farmed in the Kiester and Wells area. They were blessed with two sons, Wendell Lee Wogen and Paul Loren Wogen.

Muriel was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kiester where she was a member of the Senior Choir and other vocal groups as well as an accompanist. She also taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and the Bethel Bible Series. She served as the President and held other offices of the American Lutheran Church Women. She served as the President of ALCW Chain of Lakes Conference, and President of St. Luke’s Home Auxiliary in Blue Earth. Throughout her life, Muriel enjoyed music, flowers, gardening and home-making.

She Is survived by her husband, Elvin Wogen of Kiester; two sons, Wendell Wogen of Windom, and Paul and his wife Carole Wogen of Crystal; grandchildren Elizabeth, Matthew, Sarah, Jonathan and Benjamin Wogen; brothers-in-law Luverne Anderson of Los Fresnos, Texas, Stanley and wife, Evelyn Wogen of Kiester; sisters-in-law Blanche Wuerflein of Winona, Vione Wuerflein of Albert Lea, Selma and husband Milton “Jim” Sime of Lake Mills, Iowa, Luella Flo of Lake Mills, and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Ethel Pries and Wilma Anderson; brothers Marlin, Milford and James Wuerflein; two infant brothers; two infant sisters; sister-in-law Lozira Wuerflein; two brothers-in-law Erwin Pries and Bert Flo; and special nieces and godchildren Nylons and LuAnn Wogen.
