Orpha J. Storby, age 80, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died Sunday, June 16, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 20,
at Center Lutheran Church in rural Leland, Iowa, with the Rev. Thomas Rank officiating.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday evening at Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Center Lutheran Cemetery.
Orpha J. Storby was born Feb. 21, 1922, to Emil and Alma (Laugen) Bye in Scarville, Iowa. She graduated from Scarville High School and was married to Lester Storby on Nov. 14, 1942. Orpha and Lester lived on the Storby farm until Lester’s death in 1979.
Orpha was an active member of Center Lutheran Church and also an active AAL member and officer for many years. She was a longtime 4-H leader and county committee member for Winnebago County.
Orpha was very interested in genealogy and published family histories of both the Bye and Storby families.
She was Lake Mills correspondent for the Graphic newspaper for many years.
Orpha loved to travel and to visit with friends, neighbors and family. She recently celebrated her 80th birthday with many of them at the Civic Center.
Orpha is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Jim Fessler of Bella Vista, Ark.; grandson, Christopher Pearson of Denver, Colo.; son, Lowell and grandsons, Matthew and Lucas, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Lowell’s fiance, Judith Beltran, of Mazatlan, Mexico; son, David and his wife Diane and
grandson, Seth, of Dallas, Ore., and granddaughter, Lissa and her husband Frank Hoglund, of Mesa, Ariz.; brother, Orrin Bye, and sister, Mae Wilds, of Albert Lea; another brother, Clifford Bye and sister-in-law, Charlotte, of
Mankato; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Orpha was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; her sister, Lila; and her parents.
