Newly endorsed Republican candidates for U.S. Senate, governor and other offices were scheduled to swing through Albert Lea this afternoon as part of an eight-city tour to kick off the 2002 political campaigns.

Senate candidate Norm Coleman and Tim Pawlenty, fresh off a marathon battle with Brian Sullivan for the GOP gubernatorial endorsement, were to appear during a press conference at the Freeborn County Courthouse at 1:45 p.m.

The day-long tour of southern Minnesota started in Red Wing and was also to include Winona, Austin, Owatonna, Faribault, Mankato and New Ulm.
