GLENVILLE &045; Hits have been tough to come by this summer for the Glenville-Emmons American Legion baseball team, and so have victories.

But progress has been made.

The G-E squad totaled 23 hits while splitting a doubleheader with the Austin VFW.

&uot;Again we had a couple errors that hurt us,&uot; said coach Louie Toulouse. &uot;But our bats started to come alive, which was a major concern before Sunday.&uot;

G-E outhit Austin 15-9 while winning the opener 12-7.

Nathan Cooper led the offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Getting two hits each were Robert Flugum, Matt Webb, Mike Yocum, Matt Learn and Mitch Meier. Richie Mathis and Jake Hansen added one hit apiece. Yocom pitched 5 1/3 innings for the win. Flugum pitched 2/3 of an inning in relief.

&uot;It was a nice comeback,&uot; said Toulouse. &uot;We scored four times in the fifth to tie it at seven and put it away with five in the sixth.&uot;

Errors were the difference in game two as G-E outhit Austin 8-7 but had five fielding miscues to the home team’s two.

Meier and Paul Kleven both had two hits. Hansen, Yocom, Flugum and Chase Rayman each had one hit. Hansen pitched three innings and took the loss. Flugum again pitched in relief.

Meier, Webb and Flugum were the only players with hits in an 8-2 loss at Hayfield Saturday. Learn was the losing pitcher.

G-E also had only three hits in 2-1 loss to New Richland Friday night, one each by Mathis, Hansen and Yocom. Meier took the loss despite not allowing an earned run in 7 2/3 innings; he struck out

13 and walked five, giving up six hits.

The action brought G-E’s record to 4-7. The next game is tonight at 6:30 against Hayfield at Emmons.
