Earl H. Hansen, 87, Freeborn

Funeral services for Earl H. Hansen, 87, of Freeborn, will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 31, at the Freeborn Congregational UCC. The Rev. Cherie Daniel will officiate. Interment will be in Freeborn Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion of Freeborn and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Wells. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Earl died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Thorne Crest (North) Retirement Center in Albert Lea, following a 2-1/2 month stay at St. Marys Hospital following lung surgery.

Earl Herbert Hansen was born Dec. 4, 1914, to Henry and Bertha (Bothum) Hansen in Freeborn. Earl attended Freeborn School until he began vegetable farming. Earl was united in marriage to Marie Quade on Sept. 22, 1940, in Wells. He served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II. After his discharge he returned to Freeborn, where he worked for Freeborn County Coop as a petroleum salesman for 42 years, retiring in 1980. Earl was an active member of the Freeborn Congregational UCC, Freeborn American Legion, VFW in Wells, Freeborn Fire Department and the Freeborn Booster’s Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling with Marie. Earl found great enjoyment visiting with his many friends.

Earl is survived by his wife, Marie of Freeborn; daughter, Donna Marie and husband Kenny Dulitz of Albert Lea; two grandsons: Robert and wife Teresa Dulitz of Owatonna, and Kevin and wife Leean Dulitz of Albert Lea; four great-grandsons: Brandon, Tyler, Austin and Alex; brother, James and wife Margorie Hansen of rural Freeborn; sisters-in-law: Irene Babcock of Wells, Dorothy and husband Norman Jacobsen of Freeborn, Margaret and husband Bill Hungerford of Mason City, Iowa, and Marcella Erickson of Bricelyn; and nephews Rick Hansen, and Robert and wife Tonya Hansen and son, Ryan.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
