Fast-pitch team takes 2 from BP

Offense, defense, pitching.

The Albert Lea 18-and-under fast-pitch softball team had it all in a recent doubleheader sweep of Blooming Prairie, winning 5-2 and 11-0 in five innings.

Lindsey Jorgenson was the offensive leader in the opening game, registering a three-run triple and a single. Ashley Chrz doubled and singled. Also getting base hits were Jenny Hovendick, Vanessa Storlie, Jess Hanson, Leah Boyer and Stacy Thisius.

Nicole Rafdal went the route on the mound, not walking a batter while striking out six.

Ashley Helgerson played an excellent defensive game at second base, according to coach Emily Ulve, while Hovendick had another very strong game at shortstop.

Chrz and Kelly Royce both had two hits in the second game. One of Royce’s was a double. Hovendick also hit a double. Players with singles were Boyer, Kelly Yost, Elise Austad, Helgerson and Amy Madsen.

The winning pitcher was Steph Lackey, who struck out three batters and walked two.
