Guenther volunteers in a variety of ways

Alden’s version of the Lakeview Trolley operates on a smaller scale. Its only driver, Thelma Guenther, takes other seniors to doctor appointments, church, senior dining and various activities.

For her efforts, Guenther has been recognized as an Outstanding Senior Citizen of the year.

&uot;No one has done more for more people,&uot; said Evelyth Tiede, who nominated Guenther for the award.

Since her retirement almost 30 years ago Guenther has been involved in Alden Senior Dining, the Alden Historical Society Museum, the United Methodist Church women, the Floral Hall and Home Activities Buildings at the Freeborn County Fair, and the Alden Senior Citizens. She has held a post within almost every organization from secretary to chairman.

&uot;I love the fair and have an interest in history,&uot; said Guenther about her volunteer work.

Guenther has never received an award like this before, and expressed suprise and gratitude toward those who nominated her.
