Hayward man accused of sexual misconduct

A 72-year-old Hayward man will be tried for a criminal sexual conduct charge next week.

Delbert Lewis Hunt is accused of having sexual contact with his 24-year-old stepdaughter.

According to the criminal complaint, the alleged victim reported to the Sheriff’s Office that she had been touched sexually by Hunt between September 2000 and March of last year.

She has a mental handicap and has been accommodated at an institution in Albert Lea. All the alleged offenses occurred when she was visiting her mother for weekends over the period.

A state law specifically forbids sexual contact when the defendant knows or has a reason to believe that the person is mentally impaired, mentally incapacitated, or physically helpless.

Besides testimony from the victim, a social worker from the Freeborn County Human Services Department, employee at the institution, and Sheriff’s Office investigator are scheduled to take the stand as witnesses.
