David McPherson, a veteran city council member and current backup mayor, will run for reelection in Albert Lea’s second ward.

McPherson filed his candidacy at city hall Wednesday.

His seat is one of three up for election this year on the Albert Lea City Council; seats held by Ron Sorensen and Al Brooks will also be on the ballot. Brooks has said he will run, and Sorensen has not made his intentions public.

So far, one person has filed to run against McPherson: Destination: Albert Lea President Randy Erdman.

Filing for federal, state, city and county offices continues until July 16.
