&uot;We don’t have a name yet, but it won’t be the Rodeo Corral,&uot; was how Norman Fredin, secretary/manager of the Freeborn County Fair described the new building now under construction at the fairgrounds.

This new structure will replace the Rodeo Corral, which was destroyed by fire on July 24, 2001. However, it’s being built in a different location.

&uot;If anyone has a suggestion for a new name, they can let us (the fair board) know,&uot; Fredin said.

The new structure, located across from the 4-H Building is 60 feet by 80 feet in size, Fredin explained. The Rodeo Corral, by contrast, was 40 feet by 80 feet in size, he added.

&uot;This building will be ready by fair time,&uot; Fredin emphasized. &uot;It will have the same purposes as the old Rodeo Corral.&uot;

He said Zion Lutheran Church will again resume their traditional fair time food stand activities in the new building.

Fredin said the new building will be rented out for parties, graduation receptions, and other special occasions.

The new location will also allow for a handier place for people getting married in the nearby Historical Village church to hold their receptions.

Fredin explained that the new building’s cost is about $140,000, a sum which was covered by insurance.

&uot;We moved the location to get more room in the center of the fairgrounds. Also, it will help to spread out the fairgrounds somewhat, &uot;He said.

The concrete slab, which is all that remains of the former Rodeo Corral building, will be used for a rock climbing experience and a bungee trampoline, Fredin added.

This new building is being constructed by Broskoff Structures of Geneva and several sub-contractors.
