The Rochester Century Panthers had speed, skill and teamwork.

The Albert Lea Tigers had a bad night.

The Tigers started slow and never did make up much ground while falling 9-0 to Century in a Big Nine boys’ soccer game at Hammer Field Thursday night.

&uot;We ran up against a team with highly-skilled individuals, and they also played much better as a team than we did,&uot; said Albert Lea coach Jim Haun.

Eric Hutchison started in goal and Ethan Berg played the second half for the Tigers.

&uot;Neither had a good night,&uot; said Haun. &uot;But I also have to say they didn’t get a lot of help either. Century’s individual skills broke us down in the midfield, and we ended up chasing them all the time. They just had too many good chances to score.&uot;

Century outshot Albert Lea 27-11, including 14-2 in the first half.

Haun said forwards Taylor Zimmerman, Nate Lombardi and Jeremy Jacobson played well and that Jake Clark had a couple nice runs in the second half.

The junior varsity lost 5-1, with Brian Christianson scoring for Albert Lea. Delfino Albriz scored the lone goal in the C-squad’s 1-0 win.

The Tigers play next on Tuesday at Rochester JM.
