ALHS soccer girls play even with Owatonna

There were plenty of good scoring opportunities for both the Albert Lea High School and Owatonna girls’ soccer teams.

The goalies refused to give.

Neither team found the net until the second overtime, when both teams finally scored and played to a 1-1 tie in a Big Nine game at Hammer Field Tuesday night.

Coach Todd Lange, whose team ran its record to 0-1-2, said he wasn’t at all disappointed with the draw.

&uot;It was a good, even game,&uot; said Lange. &uot;I think the tie was deserved. It was a good, fun game, back and forth.&uot;

The Tigers’ best scoring chance in regulation came in the first half, when Brie Woitas sent a perfect pass to Laura Hillman, who headed it toward the goal.

&uot;The goalkeeper was able to anticipate it,&uot; said Lange. &uot;We had a couple other similar opportunities.&uot;

Hillman finally cashed in, scoring on a breakaway just 28 seconds into the second five-minute extra period. Owatonna answered about a minute later.

&uot;Right after our goal we just seemed to go flat,&uot; said Lange. &uot;I thought we had them with four minutes left, but we weren’t able to hold them off.&uot;

Playing especially well, according to Lange, were Amy Ravenhorst and Stacie Armstrong at forward. Goalie Liz Reynen also had an excellent game.

The Tigers travel to Rochester Century Thursday.
