Arlene G. Olson, 89, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Arlene G. Olson, age 89, of 905 Maplehill Drive (Senior Court), where she has lived for the past two years, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Grace Lutheran Church. Rev. John Henriksen will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Arlene died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at the Albert Lea Medical Center.

Arlene G. Olson was born April 13, 1913, to Gustave N. and Annie Josephine (Johnson) Fredrickson in Northwood, Iowa. She attended Glenville schools. On Aug. 18, 1930, Arlene was united in marriage to Vernal W. Olson at First Lutheran Church in Glenville. She had lived in Albert Lea since 1949 and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Arlene worked for five years for Dahl’s Grocery on Northside and 20 years for Piggly Wiggly. She loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed crafts and cooking and giving to others. Many were blessed through her cards, visits, flowers, and baked goodies, especially her old-fashioned donuts and angel food cakes.

Survivors include sons: LaVerne Olson and his wife Joanne of Emmons, and LeRoy Olson and his wife Mary of Madrid, Iowa; daughter, Darlene Koski and her husband Jim of Lincoln, Neb.; 32 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; sister, Catherine Loken of Albert Lea; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Gust Fredrickson; husband, Vernal, in 1963; infant son in 1937; and brothers: Selmar Fredrickson and his wife Goldie, Jimmy Fredrickson and his wife Lillian, and Ernest Fredrickson who died in infancy.

Memorials are preferred to Grace Lutheran Church.
