Clara Margaret O’Byrne, 93, Albert Lea

A funeral service for Clara Margaret O’Byrne was held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bonnerup Funeral Service Chapel, Albert Lea. The Rev. Robert Schneider officiated. Burial was in St. Theodore Cemetery.

Clara died on Thursday at St. John Lutheran Home, Albert Lea where she had resided since May 28, 1997. She was 93-years-old.

Clara was born in Shullsburg, Wis. on Nov. 10, 1908, the daughter of Martin and Margaret (LaBarre) Kilcoyne.

On Dec. 23, 1925 Clara was united in marriage with Willard S. Symons in Waterloo, Iowa. They lived in Galena, Ill. and moved to Albert Lea May 1, 1928. Willard died in October of 1941. On April 7, 1945, Clara was united in marriage with Peter O’Byrne at St. Theodore Catholic Church, Albert Lea. He preceded her in death on April 10, 1970.

Clara raised canaries and parakeets and was known as &uot;the bird lady.&uot;

Clara is survived by her son, Joseph Willard Symons and his wife, Ginny of Minneapolis; two grandchildren: Jody Howard and her husband, Charles, and J. Todd Symons; four great-grandchildren; two sisters Catherine Johnson and Janan Gulbrandson and her husband, Robert of Albert Lea.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Willard Symons and Peter O’Byrne; two brothers: Joseph and Ernest Kilcoyne.
