Loretta I. Newman, age 86, of Austin, died at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002.

She was born Sept. 6, 1915, to Albert and Dena (Swanson) Holte in Austin.

She married Floyd Hildreth in 1940 in Austin, and after his death Loretta married Harry Newman in 1963 in Minneapolis. A lifelong Austin resident, Loretta belonged to the Eagles, American Legion and Moose Auxiliaries. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, attending lutefisk dinners, and attending auction sales.

Survivors include stepdaughter, Yvonne Rose of Nauvoo, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Anne Newman of Austin; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many other wonderful relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by both husbands; her parents; two sons: David and Paul; step-son, Leslie Newman; one brother, James; and one granddaughter, Jolene.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 12, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin with The Rev. Don Deines officiating. Interment will be at Midway Cemetery, Oakland. Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home, Austin, from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, and at the church one hour before the services.

The family prefers memorials to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
