Politics-free zone created around county courthouse

Campaign signs have started occupying the front yards of houses as the November election date gets closer. But there will be at least one politics-free sanctuary.
The county issued a public notice that no campaign literature, signs or bumper stickers are permitted within 100 feet of the courthouse’s 1954 building. State laws prohibit solicitation near polling places on general or primary election day. The same rule apples to the period of absentee voting.
Besides two commissioners who will run again, five candidates &045; two for county sheriff, two for recorder and one for auditor/treasurer &045; are county employees working at the courthouse complex. Those who have placed signs on their car will be obliged to park the car further than 100 feet from the courthouse.
