Weekend Planner: Few events planned outside of county fair

With the Freeborn County Fair in full swing this weekend you’ll have a tough time avoiding the hustle and bustle. But, if you’re looking for relaxation, the Pelican Breeze cruises Albert Lea lake every day this weekend. Their Friday night pizza cruise starts at 6 p.m., and public cruises take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Here is a list of those and other scheduled events:
Friday, August 2:
– The Pelican Breeze will hold a Friday night pizza cruise at 6 p.m. Reservations are required. Call (507) 383-2630.
– Events happening at the grandstand and Entertainment Square at the Freeborn County Fair: Herman’s Hermits will perform grandstand shows at 7 and 9 p.m. Entertainment square shows start with Zoomobile from 2-3 p.m.; 3-4 p.m. Jeff Hugo, vocalist; 4-5 p.m. Chandra Sather vocalist; 5-6 p.m. David Jo, vocalist; 6-7 p.m. Dunnell Lenort, country vocalist; 7-10 p.m. The Second Take Band, vocal duo.
Saturday, August 3:
– The Albert Lea Farmers’ Market will be held in the parking lot at the corner of Broadway Avenue and Water Street beginning at 9 a.m.
– The Pelican Breeze will hold a public cruise at 2 p.m.
– Events happening at the grandstand and Entertainment Square at the Freeborn County Fair: John Anderson will perform grandstand shows at 7 and 9 p.m. Entertainment Square shows start with Dunnell Lenort from 2-3 p.m.; 3-4 p.m. David Jo, vocalist; 4-5 p.m. Laura Reindal, vocalist; 5-6 p.m. Terry Shropshire, vocalist; 6-7 p.m. Jeff Hugo, vocalist; 7-8 p.m. Chandra Sather, vocalist; 8-10 p.m. L.D. Cruiser and the Tones.
Sunday, August 4:
– The Earl Hunt ALMA Band will present its weekly free program of live music beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Edgewater Park bandshell. The band’s two-hour set list includes military and circus style marches, waltzes and polkas. The program is sponsored by the Albert Lea Federation of Musicians Local 567 and the city of Albert Lea.
– The Pelican Breeze will hold a public cruise at 2 p.m.
– Events happening at the grandstand and Entertainment Square at the Freeborn County Fair: the NTPA Tractor Pull starts at 5 p.m. in front of the Grandstand. In Entertainment Square Heart Song gospel group will perform from 12:30-2 p.m. followed by the county talent contest from 3-5 p.m.
