The Waseca Bluejays didn’t do anything complicated against the Albert Lea High School volleyball team.

The Tigers just couldn’t stop it.

The locals had problems communicating, according to coach Gina Eppen, and lost 3-0 to Waseca in a nonconference match in the ALHS gym. The game scores were 15-8, 15-2, 16-14.

&uot;We just didn’t look real cohesive tonight,&uot; said Eppen. &uot;We played two and a half games of bad volleyball. The girls really didn’t start playing until the second half of the third game.&uot;

Eppen was impressed with the Tigers’ tenacity in game three, when they rallied from a 14-10 deficit to tie it at 14, but they didn’t have much left after that.

&uot;It’s going to be tough after we play two and a half games of pretty much run-and-gun volleyball,&uot; said Eppen. &uot;We defeated ourselves tonight. Waseca didn’t do anything fancy. They had one good hitter, and she hit to spots we should have been defensively.&uot;

The Tigers served 85 percent, 46-for-54, with five aces.

The Tigers’ individual leaders: Ashley Chrz 11 assists, two blocks; Leah Boyer 10 assists, two blocks; Amber Edwards four kills, one block; Emily Thompson two kills, one block; Christina Berggren five kills, six digs; Whitney Sorenson eight kills, five blocks, five assists, six digs; Danielle Rankin seven kills, one block, eight digs.

The loss dropped the Tigers’ record to 2-11, but they won’t have long to think about it with Faribault coming to town Thursday.

&uot;We’re going to have to play well in order to beat Faribault,&uot; said Eppen. &uot;We played a very nice game to beat JM, and in order to beat Faribault we’re going to have to play a lot better than we did tonight.&uot;
