John T. Nordby, 94, Moscow

John T. Nordby, age 94, of Moscow, Minn., died Thursday evening, Sept. 5, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea.

He was born March 2, 1908, to John S. and Thea Olava (Stoa) Nordby in Moscow Township, Freeborn County. He attended School District 120 and farmed the family farm all his life. John was baptized and confirmed at Moscow Lutheran Church where he was a lifetime member. He was an usher, Sunday School teacher and served on the church council and was a deacon for many years.

John was always willing to help people. He cared for his nieces and nephews, the Brekke kids, as if they were his own. The owner of the first mounted corn picker in the area, John also had a corn sheller and shelled corn for people, cut grain and still found time to do some traveling. A member of the Farm Bureau, he also served on the school board.

Survivors include brothers, Emil Nordby of Austin and Marvin Brekke of Austin; sisters, Ruth Arnetveit of Northwood, Iowa, Bertha Hanson of Albert Lea and Palma Ulland of LaPorte; and many nieces, nephews, great- nieces, nephews and great- great- nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; several young siblings, brothers, Adolph Nordby in October 1944 and Erling Brekke in July 1991 and sister, Sylvia Gilbertson in April 1997.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 9, at Moscow Lutheran Church, 25826 870th Ave., Austin. with the Rev. LaDonna Ekern officiating. Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin from 3-6 p.m. Sunday and at the church one hour before the service. Interment is in the church cemetery.
