Karen Locken, 65, Minot, N.D.

Karen (Bjoro) Locken, age 65, of Minot, N.D., and a summer resident of Nevis, Minn., passed away at her lake home in Nevis on Friday, Sept. 13, 2002.

Karen (Bjoro) Locken was born on Feb. 24,1937, to Vernon and Hazel Bjoro in Albert Lea. She was raised in Albert Lea, graduating from Albert Lea High School in 1955. Karen went on to attend St. Mary’s School on Nursing in Rochester where she earned her RN degree. She continued her professional training at the Minneapolis School of Anesthesia where she earned her degree in anesthesia.

As a young woman Karen worked as a nurse anesthetist at North Memorial Medical Center in Minneapolis, and the University of California Los Angeles Medical Center.

Karen was united in marriage to Clayton Locken on Nov. 16, 1963, in Albert Lea. The couple made their home in Minot, N.D. Their union was blessed with one child, Kristin.

Karen continued her professional career as a nurse anesthetist at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Minot until she retired in 1994.

Karen loved traveling abroad with her husband, Clayton. She enjoyed spending time at the family summer home on Lake Belle Taine in Nevis. She was skilled at needlework and was an avid reader of historical fiction. She was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Minot, N.D.

She will be Iovingly remembered by her daughter, Kristin Locken of Madison, Wis., as well as other relatives and friends.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Vernon, and her husband, Clayton, in 2000.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Minot, N.D. Burial will be at Norman Lutheran Church Cemetery in White Earth, N.D. For more information please contact the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, Minn., at (219) 732-5131.
