Olga Haugland Svedahl, 98, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Olga Haugland Svedahl, of the Good Samaritan Center, Albert Lea, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Good Samaritan Center. Chaplain Gary Terrill will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour before the service at Good Samaritan.

Olga died on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at the Good Samaritan Center. She was 98.

She was born on Nov. 12, 1903, in Norway, the daughter of Antone and Dorothea Munson. She attended school in Norway. At the age of 18, she came to the United States and lived with her aunt in Westbrook, Minn. She later moved to Minneapolis where she met and married Theodore Haugland in 1924. They had lived in Minneapolis, Duluth, Chicago, and Emmons. Theodore died in 1954. In 1960, she married Erling Svedahl; he also preceded her in death.

Throughout her life Olga had worked for various families housekeeping, had cooked and cared for Governor Freeman’s family, and had also worked in Comstock and Pioneer Halls at the University of Minnesota. She moved to Albert Lea to be near her family two years ago, living at Senior Court for a short time, and then Good Samaritan Center.

Olga styled and made her own hats and beautiful clothing, and she also was a excellent rosemaler.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna M. and her husband Harvey Brua of Albert Lea; son-in-law, Robert Steele of Albert Lea; six grandchildren: Ted Brua of Rochester, Penny Brua Mortenson and her husband Louie Jr. of rural New Richland, Robert B. Brua and his wife Karen of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, Barbara and her husband Jim Erickson of Owatonna, Tammy Westby and her husband Tom of Rochester, and Pamela Tischer and her husband Rick of Onalaska, Wis.; great-grandchildren: Rebecca, Josh, Aaron, Weston, Cody, Max, Kelly Ann, Tony, Derek, Brooke, Nicole, and Michelle.; and great-great-grandchildren: Zachary, MacKenzie and Tanner.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; Theodore Haugland and Erling Svedahl; three daughters: Bernice Edith and Julie Ann Edith in infancy, and Gladys Haugland Steele; a brother, Melvin; and a sister, Jenny.
