Orien M. Sorbo, 81, Glenville

The funeral service for Orien M. Sorbo of 420 Second St. S.W., Glenville, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Glenville. The Rev. Mark Wendland will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Glenville. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church.

Orien died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at the Good Samaritan Center. He was 81 years old.

Orien was born Nov. 28, 1920, in Worth County, Iowa, to Oliver and Marie (Flaten) Sorbo. Orien was baptized and confirmed at Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, Iowa. He attended Worth County, Iowa, District #1 School and Sorenson Lah District 105 Freeborn County School through the eighth grade. He farmed with his parents near Emmons before his marriage. Orien married Lila Walswick in 1958. She died in 1968. Orien married Ruth Wadding Steene on Nov. 29, 1969. He worked for Emil Olsons for 10 years, and Glenville High School for 20 years where he was custodian and a bus driver. He was a honorary Chapter Farmer at Glenville High School, fireman for 19 years at Glenville, resided for 33 years in Glenville, belonged to the Community Booster and First Lutheran Church of Glenville and also belonged to the Eagles He enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to Big Ole Lake and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Orien is survived by his wife, Ruth Sorbo of Glenville; son, Steven Sorbo of Glenville; stepchildren: Butch Steene and his wife Sandy of Glenville, Gerry Steene and his wife Helen of Alden, Linda Bighley and her fiancee Don Lau of Glenville, and Mike Steene and his wife Cindi of Glenville; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Gavle of Albert Lea; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Orien was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Lila Walswick; and two sisters: Mildred Oakland and Thornie Runden.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
