Train carries a message of safety
By Masaaki Harada, Tribune staff writer
Some of an audience of 178 passengers enjoy a ride on a 1940s
vintage rail car. The train, operated by the Union Pacific, ran
between Mason City, Iowa, and Owatonna for the company’s campaign
to reduce railroad accidents.Monitors on board showed 200 law
enforcement officers and other emergency personnel live scenes
from a video camera placed in front of the train, and helped the
participants understand how drivers were behaving at crossings
when the train was approaching.
