Catholic women meet in Albert Lea, donate items

Women came from all southeastern Minnesota Sunday for prayer and study in Albert Lea.

St. Theodore Catholic Church hosted the annual meeting of the Winona Diocese Council of Catholic Women. Some 100 women attended from more than 30 parishes.

According to Joyce Rhody, president of the Albert Lea Council of Catholic Women, there were workshops for the council’s various commissions. Deb Westphal of the Freeborn County Crime Victims’ Crisis Center was one of the speakers.

There was also a catered lunch for the attendees, and the day closed with a Mass.

&uot;It was a full day of prayer and study,&uot; Rhody said.

The representatives from each parish also brought baby clothing and quilts for the El Salvador Mission Warehouse. Al Sammon of Sammon Trucking of Faribault lent use of one of his semi trucks and was on hand to accept the truckload of donations. Husbands of local CCW members as well as confirmation students were on hand to help load the truck. Sammon drives the donations to New Holstein, Wis., where they are shipped to wherever they are needed throughout the world, Sammon said.
