Dolores ‘Dee’ M. Durgin, 79, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Dolores “Dee” M. Durgin, age 79, of Albert Lea, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the Church of St. Theodore. The Rev. Robert Schneider will officiate. Interment will be in St. Theodore’s Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the area servicemen’s organizations. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Dolores died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at Bethesda Rehabilitation Hospital in St. Paul.

Dolores Mary Durgin was born Nov. 1, 1922, to Thomas and Mae (Meyers) Lynch in Newark, N.J. She grew up in Berkley Heights, N.J., and graduated from high school there in 1940. Dolores enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 and served until November 1946 as an aviation machinist. On Nov. 11, 1946, she was united in marriage to Reginald Nielsen in New Jersey. He died in 1949. On April 20, 1950, Dolores married Lawrence Durgin in Albert Lea. She worked as a sales clerk for J. C. Penney for 21 years and then St. Theodore’s after her retirement. She was a member of the Church of St. Theodore and the CCW, American Legion, Eagles, and the Grapevine Twisters. Dolores was a very active person and enjoyed square dancing, bowling, swimming, knitting, and visiting her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her children: Ann Nielsen of Eagan, Kris Nielsen and his wife Karen of Gonvick, Minn., Pat Nelson and her husband Bill of Long Prairie, Minn., Mary Durgin and her husband Dave Strand of Sauk Rapids, Minn., Mike Durgin and his wife Beth of Rogers, Ark., and Kevin Durgin and his wife Monica of Little Canada, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; companion, Milon Baer of Albert Lea; and nieces and nephews.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Reginald and Lawrence; and a brother and a sister.
