New pub among Rendezvous highlights

People attending this year’s Big Island Rendezvous and Festival will find a new, more intimate place for entertainment. A colonial-style pub is being set up near the pioneer settlement area, said Perry Vining, executive director of the Rendezvous.

&uot;There are a capella and acoustic musicians who will be playing there,&uot; Vining said.

The schedule for the pub on Saturday includes Drabbletails at 10:15 a.m. and 4:15 p.m.; Greenwood Tree at 11 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.; 18th Century Entertainment at 11:45 a.m., 2 and 5 p.m.; Steve Black at 12:30, 3:30 and 5:45 p.m.; and Curtis and Loretta and 1:15 p.m.

Sunday’s pub schedule includes 18th Century Entertainment at 10:15 a.m.; Drabbletails at 11 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.; Curtis and Loretta at 11:45 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Steve Black at 12:30 p.m.; and Greenwood Tree at 2:45 p.m.

There will again be entertainment in the food area stage, with many of the same entertainers as well as the Wild Goose Chase Cloggers, Tanglefoot and Kimmel & Granger.

&uot;The Wild Goose Chase Cloggers are back for the first time in seven years,&uot; Vining said, adding the group is usually performing in Europe during the festival. &uot;And Greenwood Tree is back after being gone for just about as long.&uot;

Vining said people like the festival’s George Washington wanted a place to go to be entertained, and that’s one of the reasons for the addition of the pub.

Vining is conducting a contest to name the pub for next year’s festival. &uot;Anybody can submit a name,&uot; he said.

Members of the Albert Lea High School Girls’ Basketball Team will serve as hostesses at the pub as a fund-raiser during the festival.

The Big Island Rendezvous and Festival runs from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at Bancroft Bay Park. Tickets are $6 in advance for adults and $4 in advance for children 6-11. Advance tickets are available until 3 p.m. Friday at local financial institutions.Tickets are $8 for adults at the gate and $5 for children. Children 5 and under are admitted free. The entrance fee includes shuttle bus service from the Freeborn County Fairgrounds.
