Weekend planner: Waffle breakfast and fish supper among events

It’s all for the birds! The Albert Lea Audubon Society will hold a bird seed sale in the Wal-Mart parking lot (at the gazebo) from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.

Following are other events scheduled around the area this weekend:

Friday, Oct. 18

– The North Star of Iowa Corn Maze and Secret Garden will be open from 10 a.m.-midnight. Admission is $5, with children 5 and under admitted free. It’s Midnight Maze Weekend. To get to the maze from Albert Lea, go south on Highway 65. Just north of Northwood, turn west on 490th Street, then go west on the blacktop for a sixteenth of a mile.

– The Pumpkin Patch of Albert Lea is open from 1-6 p.m. Go west on County Road 46 for two miles to County Road 71. Turn left and go south for 1/2 mile. The patch is on the right side of the road. There is no entrance fee. There are games for the kids, and pumpkins for sale. The patch is closed if it’s raining.

– St. Theodore Catholic Church will hold a fish fry from 5-6:30 p.m. in Marian Hall. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Children under 3 eat free. The menu includes fish, baked or mashed potatoes, cole slaw, rolls and ice cream with toppings.

Saturday, Oct. 19

– The Albert Lea Farmers’ Market will be held in the parking lot at the corner of Broadway Avenue and Water Street beginning at 9 a.m.

Sunday, Oct. 20

– Hillcrest Cemetery will host a Dad’s Belgian Waffle breakfast from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Albert Lea Union Center. Tickets are available at the door for $5.50 per person. Children 5 and under eat free. Take-outs are available.

– The Ambassadors will be in concert at 8 and 10:45 at the Albert Lea United Methodist Church. There is no admission to the concert, but a freewill offering will be received.
