Eleanor Gertrude Sellner, 86, Comfrey

Eleanor Gertrude Sellner, age 86, of Comfrey, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, Minn.

Eleanor was born Aug. 9, 1916 in Mulligan Township to Frederick and Catherine (Reminger) Windschitl. She lived at home until her marriage to Sylvester Sellner on May 30, 1938 at the Church of Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth, Minn. The couple farmed together for 13 years in Bashaw Township and in Adrian Township since 1959. Eleanor became a resident at St. John Lutheran Home in May of 2002. Eleanor is a former member of the Japanese Martyrs Catholic Church in Leavenworth, a long-time member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Comfrey, St. Mary’s Catholic Aid Association, St. Paul CCW, and the Noweta Garden Club. She enjoyed her huge vegetable and flower gardens, raising chickens, ducks and geese, sewing, quilting, crocheting, hardanger, embroidery, jigsaw puzzles, and focusing on her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Bernadine and her husband Donald Schwaegerl of Spicer, Minn., and Geraldine and her husband Odean Berg of Albert Lea; sons James and his wife Karen Sellner of Gold River, Calif., Donald and his wife Anita Sellner of Mesquite, Texas, Thomas Sellner of Bellevue, Neb., Kenneth and his wife Bonnie Sellner of North Mankato, and Loren and his wife Virginia Sellner of Belton, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers Raymond and his wife Marilyn Windschitl of Detroit Lakes, and Richard and his wife Evelyn Windschitl of North Mankato; and two sisters- in- law, Rosella Windschitl of Sleepy Eye, Minn., and Betty Windschitl of Belle Plaine.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Sylvester in 1991; a sister, Mildred Lang and two brothers, Sylvester Windschitl and Melvin Windschitl.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Comfrey, with the Rev. Todd Peterson officiating. A parish prayer service was held at the church Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 8:30 a.m., with visitation from 8:30 to 11 a.m., also at the church. Interment was in St. Paul Catholic Cemetery in Comfrey. The Sturm Funeral Home in Comfrey was in charge of arrangements.
