WELLS &045; A strike is possible if a Nov. 6 mediation meeting doesn’t solve the negotiations between the school and the teachers union in the United South Central School district, according to Karen Robbins, president of the USC teacher’s union.
&uot;We’re hoping for good things,&uot; Robbins said. &uot;But if things don’t pan out, I would expect a strike vote to be called by our committee.&uot;
The district and the teachers’ union have been negotiating a new contract since mid-summer but have not yet come to an agreement.
The matter of difference is the severance package. The teachers union would like $72,000 and the district has offered $60,000.
The two sides will meet with a state mediator to try to settle the contract Nov. 6.
At the last meeting, neither side was willing to budge on its offer.
