Weekend Planner: Church fund-raisers top weekend events

Santa Paws is coming to town. The Humane Society of Freeborn County’s annual fund-raiser, Santa Paws, will be held at Foto Factory in the Northpark Plaza from 12:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17. People can have their pets’ photos taken with a Christmas theme backdrop, then choose to put the photos on buttons, T-shirts, sweatshirts or refrigerator magnets.

Following is a roundup of other events happening in the area this weekend.

Friday, Nov. 15

– Cross of Glory Lutheran Church in Hartland will have a soup and pie supper from 4:30-7 p.m. Featured soups are chili, hobo, chicken noodle and ham. There will be an assortment of pies to choose from. Cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children 12 and under. Kids 3 and under eat free.

– St. Theodore Catholic Church will hold a fish fry from 5-6:30 p.m. in Marian Hall. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Kids under 3 eat free. The menu includes fish, baked or mashed potatoes, cole slaw, rolls and ice cream with toppings.

– Albert Lea Vineyard Church will sponsor a soup and pie supper from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Albert Lea American Legion. Featured soups are chili, vegetable beef, chicken wild rice and cream of potato. There will also be assorted breads and pies. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 3-12 and kids under 3 eat free.

Proceeds benefit the Mazatlan, Mexico mission trip in December.

Saturday, Nov. 16

– The First Lutheran Church Women and Lutheran Brotherhood Freeborn Branch 8482 will sponsor Holidays Ahead in Bethany Hall of First Lutheran Church from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. There will be crafts, lefse, cookies, candy, a bake shop and a &uot;used-a-bit&uot; shop. Coffee will be served from 8-10:30 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Proceeds benefit missionaries.

– The Lake Mills Community Preschool and Daycare will sponsor its 15th annual craft and collectible sale from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Fleetguard Family Center, North Lake Street, Lake Mills, Iowa. There will be over 60 booths with door prizes, a Ducks Unlimited print raffle and a quilt raffle. There will also be a silent auction. Rolls and coffee and lunch will be served. Proceeds go to the building project.

– The Albert Lea Community Band will present a concert near the food court at Northbridge Mall beginning at 1 p.m.

– Grace Christian Church will hold an indoor rummage and homemade enchilada sale from 2-6 p.m. at 501 W. College St. To pre-order enchiladas, call 377-9608; they are $8 per dozen. Proceeds will benefit the Youth D.C. trip.

Sunday, Nov. 17

– Tryouts for the Eagles’ 49th Cancer Telethon will be from 1-3 p.m. at the Eagles Club, 205 W. William St. People should bring their own tape or record players. For more information, call 373-1162. The telethon will be Jan. 18 and 19.
