ALHS swimmers stay undefeated

AUSTIN &045; Winning 11 of 12 events, the Albert Lea High School boys’ swimming and diving team claimed an easy 99-85 dual-meet victory at Austin Thursday night.

The Tigers, who won all 11 swimming races, ran their record to 9-0 overall and 8-0 in the Big Nine. They led 99-73 after 11 events and did not count their points in the 12th.

Colton Jensen, Ethan Berg, Mitch Johnson and Ben Schreiber each were first in two individual events.

Jensen won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:56.11 and the 500 free in 5:28.64, Berg the 100 butterfly in 58.14 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 59.89, Johnson the 50 free in 23.21 and the 100 free in 50.26, Ben Schreiber the 200 individual medley in 2:12.61 and the 100 breast in 1:07.43.

Berg, Schreiber, Ben Matheson and Josh Elwood won the 200 medley relay in 1:47.32. Johnson, Ryan Lowe, Jensen and Matheson were first in the 200 free relay, clocking 1:34.6. Johnson, Jensen, Lowe and Berg were fastest in the 400 free relay, 3:31.12.

Other Albert Lea places: Jon VanErkel, fifth, 200 free, 2:15.81 and fifth, 500 free, 6:18.54; Matheson, second, 200 IM, 2:13.58 and second, 100 butterfly, 1:00.87; Elwood, third, 200 IM, 2:20.71 and second, 100 butterfly, 1:00.87; Chris Jackson, fourth, 50 free, 24.65 and second, 100 breast, 1:08.41; Lowe, fifth, 50 free, 24.72 and third, 100 free, 54.21; Matt Stoneking, fourth, diving, 99.75; Jordan Elleby, fifth, diving, 79.0; Casey Ciffra, fourth, 100 back, 1:13.09; Josh Anderson, fourth, 100 breast, 1:16.68.

Austin won the junior varsity meet 97-44. The Tigers’ lone first was by Matt VanFossen in the 200 IM.

The Tigers finish their Big Nine dual-meet schedule Tuesday at home against Winona.
