Louis Belshan Jr., 91, Austin

Louis Belshan Jr., age 91, of Austin, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

Louie was born May 20, 1911, in a log cabin, in Shellrock Township, Minn. to Louis and Josephine (Benesh) Belshan.

On Feb. 20, 1935 he was united in marriage to Alice Plevka in Albert Lea.

Louie was a retired farmer, owner of a service station, worked as a school custodian and was manager of the Skyline Mall in Albert Lea.

He worked at Wilson’s Stockyard, as a plumber and served on school and township boards.

Louie took pride in lawning and he loved to dance, especially polka dancing to old time music in Myrtle at the Old Black Bottom and the Brick Hall. He was an avid watcher of the Weather Channel and the Lawrence Welk Show.

He loved to visit.

Being a farmer was a major part of his life.

Survivors include a son:

Robert Belshan, Austin; a daughter and son-in-law:

Delores and David Tschann, Austin; 11 grandchildren; twenty six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers and sisters-in-law:

Alva Belshan, Dallas, Texas, Fred and Gladys Belshan, Glenville, Milo and Betty Belshan, Albert Lea; three sisters:

Emily Cech, Glenville, Josephine Cech, Glenville, Helen Dockwell, Hayward.

He is preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, 2003 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Myrtle with the Rev. Daniel Baker officiating.

Friends may call one hour before the service at the church on Monday.

Interment will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery.
