Linda V. Scherb, 103, Kiester

Linda V. Scherb, age 103, of Kiester, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at the Parkview Care Center in Wells.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kiester. The Rev. Richard Steffen will officiate. Visitation will be at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells today, March 19, from 4-7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday. Interment will be at Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery, Kiester.

She was born March 9, 1900, in Mansfield Township, Freeborn County, to John and Augusta (Korn) Jahnke. She was baptized and confirmed at Mansfield Lutheran Church. She married Frank W. Scherb there on Jan. 17, 1923.

Linda was a lifelong resident of the Kiester area. She moved to The Shepherds Inn in 1992 and to Parkview Care Center in 1995. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kiester, and its WELCA. She was active in the Birthday Club in Kiester. She enjoyed crocheting afghans and doilies until she was 101 years of age. She loved to bake and loved her family.

She is survived by one son, Garlin and wife Sonia Scherb of Kiester; one daughter, Marvel Black of Wilmot, S.D.; eight grandchildren: Linda and husband Bob Hilleque, Craig and wife Molly Black, Mary and husband Harold Wilson, Vicki and husband Dale Paschke, Glenn and wife Cindy Scherb, Sheree Covert, Christine and husband David Tatge, and Susan and husband Greg Path; 12 great-grandchildren: Vanessa, Vicki Lyn, Elizabeth, Gordon, Katie, Matthew and Daniel, Molly, Megan, Marshall, Rachel, and Elise; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank, in 1973; daughter, Ardis Bergh, in 2000; and two brothers and four sisters.
