Lela L. Stansbarger, age 71, of Walters, died Wednesday, April 2, at Thorne Crest Care Center in Albert Lea.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the United Lutheran Church in Walters. The Rev. Donald Rose will officiate. Visitation will be at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells on Friday from 5-8 p.m., with VFW prayer service at 5:30 p.m., and visitation one hour prior to the service at the United Lutheran Church on Saturday.

There will be visitation at Snell-Zornig Funeral Home in Clinton, Iowa, on Monday, April 7, from 9-11 a.m., with funeral service at 11 a.m. and burial following at Pine Grove Cemetery in Clinton.

She was born Oct. 26, 1931, in Waukon, Iowa, the daughter of Wilson and Grace (Knapp) Bailey. She married Laurence E. Stansbarger on Feb. 3, 1951, in Preston, Iowa.

She grew up in the Waukon and Clinton, Iowa areas. She worked for many years at Swift Foods in Clinton. The couple moved to Wells in 1983 and to Walters in 1985. She was a member of the United Lutheran Church in Walters and its Martha Circle. She was a Gold Star Mother and member of the Wells VFW Auxiliary and the Local District and State Military Order of the Cooties #6 of Albert Lea, the American Legion Auxiliary in Kiester and the American Bowling Congress. She enjoyed fishing, sewing, canning, music, dancing and collecting candles and antique toy cars.

She is survived by her husband, Laurence Stansbarger of Walters; one daughter, Paty and husband Bruce Thrond of Emmons; her mother, Grace Bailey of Clinton; four grandchildren: Laurie and husband Ted Herman of Albert Lea, Ed and wife Amy Broderick of Albert Lea, Richard Broderick of San Diego, Calif., and Trisha-Lyn and husband Shane Edwards of Japan; four great-grandchildren: Zachary and Jessica Herman, and McKenzie and Briana Edwards; two sisters: Mary Schoenfeld of Rock Island, Ill., and Sharon and husband Tom Craig of Clinton; one brother, Jim Bailey of Clinton; several nieces and nephews; a special friend Bonnie Casey; and her beloved Hershey.

She is preceded in death by her father; son, Richard (who died in Vietnam); and brothers: Charles and William Bailey.
