Ruben L. Anderson, 64, Alden

The funeral service for Ruben L. Anderson was held at 10:30 a.m. today, April 23, at St. Theodore Catholic Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. James Russell officiated. Interment was in the St. Theodore Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and one hour before services at the church.

Ruben died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at his home in rural Alden. He was 64 years old.

Ruben was born Oct. 28, 1938, in rural Ashby, Minn., the son of Herbert and Amanda (Michelson) Anderson. He graduated from high school in Ashby in 1956, and from the Wadena Technical College. Ruben has been a resident of Freeborn County since the early 1970s. He was united in marriage to Judy Popp in 1976 at Wheaton, Minn. Ruben was a member of the St. Theodore Catholic Church.

Ruben was a salesman, worked for Jones, Haugh & Smith, and a counselor at Fountain Centers. Since 1988 he owned and operated Rural America Farm Supply in Bricelyn. He was a member of AA with 31 plus years of continued sobriety.

Ruben enjoyed gardening, music, home repair and remodeling, walking and old cars.

Ruben is survived by his wife, Judy Popp Anderson of rural Alden; sons: Terry Anderson and special friend Stephanie Loshe of Elbow Lake, Minn., and Jeffery and wife Dawn Anderson of Winona; grandchildren: Amanda and Melanie Anderson; brothers: Harold and Vonnie Anderson of Fargo, N.D., and Norman and Dara Anderson of Alexandria; nieces: Peggy Anderson of Chicago, Ill., and Tamara and husband Jeff Jahnke of Sauk Rapids, Minn., Mary Ev and husband Steve Betterly of Santa Rosa, Calif., Karen and husband Geoff Sakala of Sacramento, Calif., and Gillian Means of Modesto, Calif.; nephews: Doug Anderson of Fargo, N.D., Carry and wife Britta Anderson of Glyndon, Minn., Don and wife Karla Anderson of Ft. Collins, Colo., and James and wife Kim Popp of Hutchinson, Minn.; grand-nieces and -nephews; brother-in-law, Richard and wife Beverly Popp of Hutchinson; and sister-in-law, Joanne Means of Modesto, Calif.

Ruben is preceded in death by his parents; and father- and mother-in-law, Harvey and Mary Popp.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Fountain Center Patient Support Fund, St. Theodore Catholic Church, Bricelyn or Wadena AA Clubs, or donor’s choice.
