ALHS girls eighth in section

RED WING – The Albert Lea High School girls’ track and field team placed eighth in True Team section competition at Red Wing Tuesday.

Stewartville won the meet. Nine schools competed.

Emily Bartusek was the Tigers’ lone first-place finisher, winning the 200 meters. She just missed first in the 400, taking second.

Senior Amy Ravenhorst also had a good night, taking second in the high jump and fourth in the 200. Stacy Busch was third in the shot put and 16th in the discus.

The Tigers were sixth in the 4×200 relay with Ravenhorst, Sasha Flores, Shawna Griffith and Jasey Porter, and sixth in the 4×400 with Ravenhorst, Jasey Porter, Flores and Bartusek.

The other two relays were seventh. Danika Porter, Becky Birkhofer, Kelley Schreiber and Griffith ran the 4×100, Katie Stenseth, Cara Thorn, Rachel Antinozzi and Amy Leach the 4×400.

Other ALHS places: Danika Porter, 11th, 100; Birkhofer, 14th, 100; Flores, 13th, 400; Jasey Porter, 10th, 800; Thorn, 16th, 800; Steph Overgaard, sixth, 100 hurdles, 12th, 300 hurdles and 10th, long jump; Krista Horejsi, 12th, 300 hurdles; Annie Berger, 13th, long jump; Alicia Anderson, 14th, triple jump; Stacy Armstrong, 16th, triple jump; Emily Appel, sixth, shot put; Andrea Irvine, 11th, discus; Stenseth, 12th, 1600; Mallory King, 17th, 1600; Leah Gilbertson, 14th, 3200; Frances O’Donnell, 15th, 3200; Schreiber, 12th, pole vault and Flores, 16th, long jump.

“The girls competed real well against some extremely tough competition,” said coach Margo Wayne. “The times were very close, and the point spread between the teams was extremely close. We have a lot of work to do before the conference meet, but I give the girls a lot of credit for the hard work they’ve done so far and the effort when they step on the track.”
