NEW RICHLAND &045; Monday’s victory was considered an upset.
This one was just a nice win.
The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva boys’ golf team, coming off a victory over Gopher Conference co-favorite Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, defeated an always strong Blooming Prairie squad 163-167 at River View Thursday.
&uot;It was our best effort of the year,&uot; said coach Xan Johnson. &uot;Including JV, we had all 12 boys shoot in the 40s, and 11 of the 12 were from 38 to 45.&uot;
The Panthers improved their record to 7-1.
Jess Recknor was the medalist for the second meet in a row, shooting a 38. Andy Braaten carded a 40, Art Mills 42, Derek Chicos 43, Bryan Kormann 43 and Matt Harrington 45.
&uot;Jess Recknor, Andy Braaten and Art Mills continue to play well,&uot; said Johnson. &uot;It was good to see Derek Chicos back on track with a 43.&uot;
The junior varsity won 174-194. NRHEG scores: Justin Beatty 41, Dusty Hagen 44, Dan Gullickson 44, David Chicos 45 and Tyler Hansen 49.
The NRHEG girls lost 204-211, dropping their record to 2-3.
The difference was the medalist, Blooming Prairie’s Calla Swenson, who shot a 39.
Mary Byron led the Panthers with a 49, followed by Lindsey Langlie at 52, Tiffany Wayne 55, Kristi Thompsen 55, Bre Moe 56 and Jenny Routh 57.
&uot;Even though Mary Byron shot another round in the 40s, we started out with a 10-stroke deficit because of Swenson’s 39,&uot; said Johnson &uot;It was a very consistent round for the Panther girls.&uot;
